Webster’s Corners Elementary School is in the District Municipality of Maple Ridge, a rapidly growing community of about 60,000 people, 40 km east of Vancouver on the north side of the Fraser River. Maple Ridge is the most eastern municipality in the GVRD. Over 60% of its working citizens commute to employment throughout the GVRD.

Webster’s Corners Elementary is on Dewdney Trunk Road, one of the main east-west routes running parallel to the Fraser River through a semi-rural part of the community. The School site has provided elementary education to students for over 100 years and has been declared a Heritage Site in Maple Ridge. The present structure was completed in 1995.

The Webster’s Corners catchment area consists largely of houses which are located on acreage and range in age from the very old to very new. The area is beginning to experience much development with new housing developments in planning stages.

As is the case elsewhere in this municipality, the outdoors beckons. The geography includes the Kanaka Creek Hatchery (a short walk from the school), rivers, lakes, farms, forests and mountains as well as now highly developed urban areas. Families have ready access to the Alouette River dikes, Golden Ears Provincial Park and the UBC Research Forest for walking, cycling, fishing, swimming and hiking.

The school population reflects the catchment area. Students form a strong student body where much talent and potential are evident. Although most of the parents work, there is a good group with sufficient time to form an active and effective Parent Advisory Committee.

The School populations is a approximately 150 students with 7 divisions, 8 teaching staff, 1.5 Educational Assistants, a Special Education teacher, a Principal, a .2 Counselor, a .1 Aboriginal Education Worker, a Secretary and a Custodian.

Parents are always welcome and they are significant participants in the education process, ranging from in-class assistance, helping out with field trips, sports activities and other events that take place throughout the year. The partnership between the school and home has led to a positive learning environment for our students. “Living is for Learning” is truly reflected in the action and attitude of students, parents and staff at Webster’s Corners.
